The Story of the Cowpath Mural

The idea for the Cow Path Project evolved from the volunteer experiences of students from Y.A.L.E. School's Post Secondary Transition (PST) program who work with residents of the Masonic Home of New Jersey in Burlington, NJ. The Masonic Home is a non-profit, long-term care facility for the elderly. The residents refer to the labryinthine hallway that leads to the Home's woodshop and ice cream parlor as "The Cowpath," reminiscent of the dairy farms that once dotted the South Jersey landscape. Their imaginatve description inspired our students to propose the creation of a Cowpath mural in the winding basement corridor.

Cowpath Partners:

The students' vision received the whole-hearted support of the Masonic Home, Y.A.L.E. School, and Art Sphere Inc., a mural-arts organization that has agreed to help plan and supervise the project. In Fall 2007, residents of the Masonic Home, volunteers from area schools, and other community groups will bring the Cowpath Mural to life. The mural will demonstrate the amazing outcomes and extraordinary benefits of both service learning and intergenerational endeavors.

With your financial support, the winding hallway in the lower level of the Masonic Home will be transformed into a cityscape, countryside, and interactive children’s garden encouraging residents and guests to visit an area of the home that offers theraputic activities and social opportunities. Contributions will enable the project to reach its goal of $10,000 (the cost of materials, artistic direction, and arts-education supervision). By incorporating the names and/or logos of businesses and corporations, the mural will recognize the sponsors who have made it possible. See donor information for additional details and contact information.

Mooooving toward our goal...

Thanks to the generous supporters who have already contributed to the project, we have raised $5,000! We are half-way to our final goal of $10,000 which we need to reach before May of 2007. Every little bit helps, and remember: contributors may choose to have their names and/or logos permanently incorporated within the design of the mural...

The Cowpath Mural Project needs you! We can use all the help we can get planning and painting the mural. Volunteers from all over the area have already expressed interest in participating, but there's always room for more! We need YOUR experience and artistic talent. This project isn't just for students and Masonic Home residents. We need people from all different age groups and backgrounds.
